We're happy to introduce Melis Hamurculu, our Global Accounts Lead. At Wings4U, Melis is responsible for growing and managing relationships with key clients, such as Microsoft. This role is essential and requires a clear understanding and perspective of both sides of the client-agency relationship.
Why this role, and why Wings4U?
In my old role at Microsoft, I got to work with Wings4U quite often and each time I was satisfied by the outcome, I loved the energy the team brought to the table and the positive thinking into every situation we handled together.
After leaving the corporate life – by the way that was all I knew, I had worked at the same company for 7 years straight out of college, I wanted to do something different with my life. I wasn’t sure what that “different thing” was however searching for a while was OK with me. I remembered there was a role that I saw available at Wings4U, and knowing the culture and the people I wanted to take my chances. And here we are. A complete switch, being on the client side to the partner (agency) side, from corporate life to a remote lifestyle...
Do you have any experiences worth raving about?
Work or personal? I am proud of my background. I held many different roles within Microsoft that shaped the knowledge I have today.
What makes you tick? What are you passionate about?
Dishonesty irriates me. I believe honesty is the basis of any relationship, without it you just move in circles.
I studied psychology to get to understand people more deeply - how we make choices, what we like and why and many more questions to be answered. I think everyday we meet people that are different in certain ways however there are similarities in what we strive for, finding these is exciting to me. Finding connections that bind us together is the essential part of life.
What’s your favourite quote?
There are too many quotes that come to mind in different phases in life however one that always sticks with me is: Everything happens for a reason … this does not mean that I leave things to fate however acknowledging the fact that sometimes things are out of our control.
What’s your favourite music / bands?
By far Otis Redding, Beatles, Frank Sinatra and Edith Piaf
Which book and movie would you recommend to everyone?
It really depends what you are looking for.. However a few that are my go to’s when I need a pick-me-up are: Movies: Jeux d’enfant, Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind, Star Wars whole series Books: Answering this with a few options is hard as I love crime novels, coming of age novellas, and love stories.. I try to read a business book every 2 months as well… The list is long but my favorites from the last 6 months would be: Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg, Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari; Hit Refresh by Satya Nadella and Born a Crime by Noah Trevor.
If you could go to dinner with anyone (alive or not), who would it be and why?
This list is long but I would want to go to dinner with Picasso and Edith Piaf to learn what drove them to become who they are, their views on the world, on art and the future they see.
